Kalena Duru

Owner | Lead Stylist

Kalena Duru

A third-generation hairdresser, Kalena Duru grew up in her maternal aunt’s hair salon in Cove City, North Carolina, where she was kept busy shampooing clients in her teens. After relocating to metro-Atlanta, Duru earned her cosmetologist license to better further her training. She landed an apprenticeship at the prestigious MTU Hair Gallery in Atlanta in 2006. After 7 years of training and work experience, she opened Kalena's Beautiful Beginnings Hair Salon, a full-service, color-based salon in the heart of her neighborhood in Marietta, Georgia.

Kalena says, “I created KBB with the vision that your experience with your hair should always be a positive one. I enjoy collaborating with clients to provide the look they want to achieve. I have a strong understanding of the many different hair types and welcome new ones. Personalizing every cut and color I create is my specialty.”

When she's not busy at the salon, she spends her time caring for her lovely family: husband, IK, handsome, cherub-cheeked son, Levi and newborn beautiful baby girl, Meroë!  You can also catch her singing her heart out with Cobb county's Eagle's Nest Church praise team.

Kenyatta Carpenter
Master Stylist

Kenyatta Carpenter

Beaming blonde bombshell, Kenyatta Nicole, was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in the St. Paul, Minnesota. She ultimately relocated to Georgia in 2008 – and we’re thrilled that she gave up the snow & the Honeycrisp Apple for the juicy Georgia peach!

As a child Kenyatta always showed a passion for the beauty industry – cutting and styling hair for friends and family, spending her allowance on mannequin heads and spending her free time visiting local salons to watch local stylists in action.   Kenyatta turned her childhood love and devotion for beauty - into a career when she pursued studies – and ultimately secured a Master’s Cosmetologist Degree from Empire Beauty School (Kennesaw, GA).

From quick & casual salons like SuperCuts™, where she gained a love for cut & color, to Emanuel Cuts & Salon where she further honed her skills - Kenyatta has a passion for giving back. She firmly believes that sharing gifts and talents with others can be more valuable than donating money.  In keeping with that belief, she provides services / volunteers with the WOW® Conference and Saving Our Daughters™ annual Glam Day.  Kenyatta also provides volunteer services at several local teen homeless shelters and senior living centers.

Kenyatta always keeps up with the latest trends and styles – without sacrificing the health of your hair.  Her motto is, "You have to be healthy from the inside out!”  Kenyatta understands that a client’s health greatly impacts EVERYTHING about you, the client – so your hair, skin & nail health can show signs of stress or disease before you realize it.  She specializes in natural hair care and styling.

Client education is also key for Kenyatta.  She pledges that – as a client – when you leave the salon, you will leave with extensive knowledge about all products used on your hair during your visit, helpful tips for at-home hair-maintenance and aftercare – but – she guarantees that you’ll also leave looking and feeling more beautiful than when you walked in.

When Kenyatta isn’t here at the salon – or volunteering, you’ll find her watching movies, hanging out with her husband and three boys, usually watching them play basketball and football.

Zaina 'Zee' Cook

Master Stylist

Ever since she was a little girl, it has always been Zaina’s passion to use her creativity to enhance women and make them feel beautiful. Her first clients being made of plastic and not able to talk, gave her the experience and confidence to start her own braiding business at just 12 years old. As her clientele grew and her craft became better, Zaina realized the potential in the dream.

In high school Zaina took four years of cosmetology electives and grew very close to her cosmetology instructor, Mrs. Fowler, who became like a second mother. Mrs. Fowler recognized Zaina’s passion and dedication and prior to high school graduation recommended her as an assistant to a full-service hair salon in Marietta, GA. It was there that Zaina fell in love with the art of hair color. After two years of shampooing, formulating and applying hair color, Zaina enrolled in school downtown where she took a job at Snob Life Studio in Atlanta. As an assistant, she learned the craft of hair extensions and hair straightening. Zaina assisted for another two years before she graduated from cosmetology school at the Atlanta Technical College.

Once she obtained her Master Cosmetology license in 2017, Zaina worked as a hair stylist at Get Glam’d Salon in Smyrna, GA. She received hands-on experience from owner Meghann Monroe, further cultivating her craft and strengthening her business. During her time at Get Glam’d, Zana worked on one wedding set and three photoshoots.

Zaina continues to grow and educate herself regularly by taking classes and webinars. Most recently, Zaina took a class with Atlanta colorist Rachel Redd. Although Zaina considers herself a colorist, she performs extension and natural hair care services as well. But the best service Zaina provides is customer service; as she strongly believes that customer service takes you a lot further than talent. Zaina uses Pravana, Wella, Redken, Biosilk, Sebastian, and Design Essentials products. Whether Zaina is in the salon or on location, her goal is complete customer satisfaction. Regardless of whether a guest is interested in a traditional sew-in or a soft highlight, Zaina’s attitude remains the same: “Hairstyling is more than just a technical skill. It involves effective communication with clients to achieve their best look.” It’s her philosophy to enhance a person’s individual beauty and make life a little less complicated. With a passion for hair and people, Zaina Cook is an on the rise Atlanta hair stylist with strong business fundamentals, integrity, value and a nonstop education.
